Hi Y'all,
First let me apologize for missing class this morning. The flu bug has hit and I thought you would appreciate me keeping my germs to myself today. I was going to cover chapter 7 (Emotions and Communication) with you today- so please read the chapter on your own. I was also going to go over your Self-Concept project with you. You can find the assignment on PALS under FILES. Check it out, and we'll go over it in more detail Tuesday.
This week's blog goes with today's lecture on chapter 7. In 1995, Goleman did a study and wrote a book on Emotional Quotient (EQ). He argued that one's EQ is more important their IQ (Intelligence Quotient) in predicting a person's success in life. What do you think?
1) Take the EQ test at: www.ihhp.com/quiz.php
2) Post your answer to this question: If you had to choose, would you rather have a high IQ or EQ? Why?

Forgot to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeletei got a 50 on my test. says my eq is pretty good. i would much rather have a high eq because to me it would mean much more stabler relationships and a more stable life. i can always work on getting smarter by studying and trying harder in school and stuff like that but a high eq i think might be harder to obtain. hope u feel better karin.
ReplyDeleteI received a score of 47 on the EQ test. The site said that I have very high emotional intelligence. I guess in a relationship that would be a good attribute to have. But if it was up to me I would rather have a high score in both IQ and EQ. A high IQ is never a bad thing to have, when it can open up more opportunities for a carrier, I’ll take that. And with a high EQ score my relationships would be mostly healthy and hopefully with only little problems.
ReplyDeleteIt is a gift to have high emotional intelligence. The ability to navigate your own emotions as well as react accordingly to others is invaluable. No doubt intelligence is a huge plus however emotional intelligence is a hands down winner for me.

ReplyDeleteI got a forty-three. Slightly above average.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy IQ a little more actually. Maybe it's because I'm already at a decent and livable EQ.
With a high of either one though, life would be easier. Perhaps moreso with a balance between them though. Or at least not a deficit in either.
37-slightly above average EQ.
ReplyDeleteThe site said:
"You are likely sensitive to the emotional climate of the people around you... You are well aware of the effect your behavior has on others. Still, while you may be adept at tuning into others and their needs - you must remember your own! Don't be afraid to honestly communicate these difficult needs and feelings. The world is well stocked with martyrs - it doesn't need any more! "
So yes, I feel like I fail to communicate my sincerest feelings-life's had a habit of shutting me down at home. I need more IQ. I would like more--it's more in demand sometimes.
46- I forgot to look at my score the first time,so it may be off just a little. I am not a big fan of test period how can one be determine by a test so many setting can affect ones outcome the color of the room, temp of the room, what one is thinking and hearing. But If I had to pick on it would be the EQ test. Only cuz I'm smart in weird way not on paper and ive accept it.:) I would not want a high IQ because most people I know that are smart on paper have no social skills what so ever not all just most of them lol...but to me I think everyone is smart just have to find out what it is..and whatever makes them happy at the end of the day..
ReplyDeleteIt also said I need to take more time out for myself. Which is true but between school, work, and military. My me time is when I'm sleeping, in the shower or driving from place to place. I will once I pass my biology flex class
ReplyDeleteScored a 38. Not happy about it. Thought I would score a little higher, but won't let it ruin my life.
ReplyDeleteWould rather have a higher EQ. Higher IQ comes with books, work, and experience. Higher EQ is something you're born into.
Happy VD Everyone.
Actually, I'm pretty sure iq is something you're born with. I think I've heard it described as ability to learn and problem solve.
ReplyDeleteNot everybody makes the most of it though, and it's still possible for some with a lower iq to outscore someone with a higher iq on a test. If they study.
How hard somebody works is what matters.
I received a 45 on my EQ test. I believe that your IQ does not have to be that high in order for you to succeed in life. I believe that knowledge is the key to wisdom and virtue, so as long as you care about whatever you want to succeed in and go for your goals to the fullest with your all you can succeed in life and your dreams..I would rather have EQ because if you understand your dreams as it is you should be able to follow them whether you have an high IQ or not. A good example is Fantasia( the singer). She wanted to sing all her life and went to american idol, won, and now have more money then all of us..plus she had a set back in school and do not think her IQ was at the highest levels..
ReplyDeleteMy test came out to a 52 and I feel pretty good knowing I can deal with my emotions and figure out what is really important to me and the future out come of these decision come from a never say die attitude. I use my gut feeling alot and it seems to help me make the right decisions at the time.
ReplyDeleteI do prefer to have a higher EQ because I think it is more important than the IQ. With a good level of EQ we can achieve our goals, have better human relations, and be more succesful.
ReplyDeleteThe EQ can add and influence our IQ, so if we try to have self control of our character and emotions, we can accomplish our goals in the academic, laboral, moral and human areas of our lives. I think a high IQ with a low EQ will not have good results in most of the lifes areas, but regular IQ with a high EQ can get good results.I think, we all can try to learn and acquire the skills to improve our EQ and be a better person. Thank you.
I just did the test and my score was realy low! The sad part: it's right! :) I need to work on my feelings and how I communicate them to other people.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do agree, especially after the test and learning more about myself, that EQ and IQ should be in balance in order to one have a better healthy life! And really enjoy better their achievements!
I scored a 48 however I still feel that I struggle with my EQ. I think developing my EQ would benefit my partners and myself in the future. IQ is very important to me because I believe knowledge is power, however personality and sincerity goes very far in sucesss. People get promoted because they are likable AND qualified. The both are equally important to me.
ReplyDeleteI scored a 54 on the test. I was actually surprised and thought I would score lower. I actually think EQ is more important because I feel to most successful people in life get to where they are through hard work and dedication. Now IQ does play apart but a harder worker who is goal orientated will go further IMO. Personally I would rather have a higher EQ because what's the point of being the smartest person in the world if you have a crappy personality and no one likes you.
ReplyDeleteI scored a 47 on my EQ test. I Think it is important to have a High EQ because It would be useful to have in relationship situations and help me better understand certain emotions I am having. It would also attribute to how comfortable you are in situations where your emotions are tested. However, I believe that having a High IQ is just as important and can take you further in life because its something people take a lot of value in having. If I had to choose I believe that id like to have a higher IQ. Sorry this is late Karen, It just slipped my mind. See you in class today
ReplyDeleteMy EQ score was a 44. I think having a greater EQ is more important than an IQ afterall, people make the world go round. With this being said I feel like our interactions with others and how we deal with life in general is very important. I also learned that its important to take a look at ourselves and evaluate who we are as people and how we react to stress and how we react to other people. Being smart is important but not as important as understanding who we are.
